Exploring Line and Texture

Exploring Line and Texture Class Model

This week we've been exploring line and texture in Art class.  Students have been identifying and using a variety of different ways of using line by varying a host of characteristics and using repetition to achieve different textures.  Students reflected upon the importance of investment of the self in their art, and room 205 is proving to be home to a host of artists who put quite of bit of themselves in every piece they create.

The above example was made as an example of the abstract project the class created this week.  The students asked for it to be posted to the class Blog.  I'll try to post some scans of student work as soon as possible.

Extra, extra, read all about it.

The Stilecroft Press is a newsletter sent home monthly by the staff here at Stilecroft with details on what is going on at school and what parents and students need to know.

It features the monthly Principal's message section by our principal Ms. Verma. This section is always filled with very useful information and is a must read.

Included in this issue is a calnedar of school events for September 2010, information about the Safe Schools Intiative, Allergies, The Terry Fox Run, and this year's Open House on Thursday September 30, 2010 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. The Open House is a popular event each year and is a great opportunity to meet your child's teacher and find out what's going on in their classroom.

First Weekly Planners Sent Home

Every week we will be sending home weekly planners detailing homework for the entire week, important coming dates like tests, and which days will require students to have proper attire and footwear for phys. ed class.

Be sure to check out "The Radar" section for important events which may be coming soon.

Happy Birthday Amanda and Jeffery

Kepler Telescope

Launched on March 6, 2009, the scientific goal of the Kepler Mission is to explore the structure and diversity of planetary systems, with a special emphasis on the detection of Earth-size planets. It will survey the extended solar neighborhood to detect and characterize hundreds of terrestrial and larger planets in or near the "habitable zone," defined by scientists as the distance from a star where liquid water can exist on a planet's surface. The results will yield a broad understanding of planetary formation, the frequency of formation, the structure of individual planetary systems, and the generic characteristics of stars with terrestrial planets.
